This is why the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus recommend babies and growing children have their vision periodically screened and have more comprehensive eye examinations as indicated.

As many eye diseases are associated with the aging process, it’s recommended that middle- aged adults have a baseline eye examination around the age of 40. This is a time when vision changes or developing eye conditions typically start to appear. Remember, it’s essential to detect and treat eye diseases early in their onset. For seniors or patients who have diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease, eye exams and routine vision care are extremely important. These exams are especially important with the presence of cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, or glaucoma.

Your visit will include a review of your medical history and a discussion of any visual changes you may have noticed since your last visit. We’ll also assess your visual acuity, your current prescription for corrective lenses, your pupils, peripheral vision, eye movement and eye pressure as well as examine the the front of the eye, the retina and the optic nerve.
